Become a volunteer driver

Wanderbus and our community rely on having a strong team of dedicated volunteers to drive our minibuses. We are always looking for more people to join our team and those interested in volunteering for Wanderbus will be warmly welcomed.

To be a driver you need:

• to hold a full UK driving licence (ideally clean but talk to us if you have any endorsements)
• to have D1 entitlement on your driving licence
• to have held your licence for two years or more, and
• be under 69 years old.

In return we offer:

• training to a nationally recognised standard (MIDAS) and accompanied by one of our experienced drivers until you are ready to ‘go solo’.

As well as providing a public transport service for otherwise poorly served villages, you will be helping community groups across Bedfordshire to carry out their day to day activities. This will include shopping, bingo, lunches and many other social activities. Many of our member groups wouldn’t be able to operate without our central pool of volunteer drivers.

Trips and hours vary but generally they are weekday mornings 09.00 – 13.00 with approximately 2 hours spent at the destination – free time.

Currently we are seeking reserve drivers to cover holidays, sickness etc so we’re bound to have opportunities available which would suit you.

You may want to volunteer just one day a month, or you may be looking to drive on a much more regular basis and we will try to fit you in to suit.
